NEW A/C INSTALLATIONS
Polar Bear is well known for the installations we do in vehicles
that have never had A/C and we can put an air conditioner into just about
any vehicle, period! Here are some common questions people ask us over
the phone.
WHAT DO OUR INSTALLATIONS LOOK
LIKE ?
Our installations are in the dash and almost identical to
factory, meaning the dash controls are typically the same as the factory
controls or are very close to it, and the air flow comes right through
your existing vents. Most people can't tell our units from the factory
units. As a matter of fact, the reason they do look and operate so closely
to the factory dealer units is because the same manufactures who make them
for us also make them for many of the dealers as well. This is not always
the case, but 8 out of 10 units come this way.
HOW DO AFTER FACTORY INSTALLATIONS
COOL?
As we mentioned before, our units are modeled after the factory
dealer unit and in most cases our units cool as good as the dealer units,
if not better, in some cases. Please keep in mind this is not always the
case, and we don't warranty our units to cool any better or worse than
any other unit. Just like the dealer who will not warranty their unit to
perform better than any other.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
In most cases the installation only takes two full days in
the shop. If it's 100 degrees outside it may take 3 days to get your vehicle
out of the shop. Some of the newer (04-05) vehicles take
4-5 days.
HOW LONG IS THE WARRANTY?
The conditional warranty on just about all of our units is 24 months or
24,000 miles on the parts and labor, whichever comes first.
This warranty is nationwide as we have thousands of affiliate stores across
the nation. We do a standard routine maintenance check once a year on all
of our installations FREE as long as you own it. You will need to see our
warranty book for specific details.
WHAT REFRIGERANT WILL YOU USE?
On all vehicles we will be installing
the new 134a system. This is the new system that came out several years ago and
it is what all the car manufactures are using. We still do some "freon"
R-12 systems on vehicles that are known to have pressure/heat problems.
HOW MUCH POWER DOES IT TAKE
OFF MY CAR?
On most vehicles, on a hot 98 day the
compressor of the a/c system will take about 3-5 horsepower to operate.
On most vehicles you can't even tell the unit is on, but on some of the
small cars with the real small engines you will notice a difference.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY GAS
MILEAGE?
On most vehicles, you shouldn't realize
more that a 1-2 gallon loss, well worth the price for driving around in
a hot car. As a matter of fact, if you drove down the road at 55 miles
per hour with your windows down the air drag coming into your car takes
about the same fuel mileage off your car.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Most mini trucks range from about $1595
to $1995 installed, with small cars running from about $1455 to $2350 installed.
The custom installations are from $2300 to $2995. We do some on site installations
for big equipment also.
WE SPECIALIZE IN THE FOLLOWING
Mini-Trucks, Toyota pickups, Nissan
pickups, Ford Rangers and Explorers, S-10 Chevy pickups and Blazers, Mazda
pickups, Dodge D-50 pickups, & Mitsubishi pickups. There really isn't
one truck we don't do, including the full size Ford, Chevy, and Dodge pickups.
We also do Kenworths and the rest of the big trucks.
The cars we do:
Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas, Dodges, Ford's
with models like pickups, Neon's, Civic's, Geo's, Tercel's, Corolla's, Sentra's just
to name a few. You name it, if it can be done we can do it.
Custom Installations
We also do expert custom installations into vehicles
like 56 Ford pickups, 62-68 Corvettes, 67 to present Camaro's, Chevelle's
and the list just goes on and on. One thing about the custom installations,
we don't do them between May 1st. and August 31st as we are just too busy
and there are just too many cars around our facility to watch over yours
to keep it safe. Not only that, but it typically takes 1 to 3 weeks in
the shop to do some of the specialty work and we just can't take up that
kind of shop space. When it comes to our custom installations we do the
job just the way you want it. If it's not right then we'll change it until
you, our customer, is happy! Quality work and great customer service on
any of our installations are the 2 primary things we concern ourselves
with at Polar Bear. The high quality units are difficult to install which
means our quality control has to be ridged and it
is.
