Every shop has a story, and ours has a few chapters. Ours began with a Sacramento air conditioning shop, a career change, and a simple promise to do the job right.
Polar Bear Auto Care opened in 1986 specializing in automotive air conditioning. That focus helped us build a reputation for solving difficult A/C problems and serving customers from throughout the Sacramento region and beyond.
As vehicles became more complex and our customers’ needs grew, so did we. Polar Bear Auto Care developed into a full-service automotive repair facility, investing in advanced diagnostic equipment, specialized tools, and technician training to handle everything from routine maintenance and brakes to electrical diagnostics and complex repairs.
A/C remains one of our strongest specialties, but today our mission is broader: provide complete, professional automotive repair backed by decades of experience and a commitment to doing the job right.
Meet the Owner – Kevin Bishop
In 2003, Kevin Bishop purchased Polar Bear Auto Care. At the time, the shop focused exclusively on A/C diagnosis and repair. Kevin came from a background in computer programming, systems design, and IT architecture, and after years of traveling for work, he was ready to put down roots in Sacramento.
Under Kevin’s leadership, Polar Bear Auto Care grew from an A/C-only shop into a full-service automotive repair facility. That technical background helped shape the way the shop approaches modern vehicle diagnostics: with the right information, the right equipment, and a methodical process.
Today, the next chapter is underway. Kevin’s son, Austin Fagan, has taken over the reins of the business, working alongside Tony to lead the service side of the operation and continue the standards Polar Bear Auto Care has built over the years.
Our Sacramento repair facility features 14 service lifts and is equipped with multiple professional scan tools, specialty diagnostic equipment, computers, and tablets to help our technicians diagnose problems accurately and efficiently. Polar Bear Auto Care is also a California STAR Smog Check Inspection and Repair Station.
What We Work On
We service most domestic and import vehicles and handle nearly all general automotive repair and maintenance. On diesel vehicles, we do not perform internal engine repair, but we can service and repair most other systems. We do not perform major repairs on hybrid vehicles, but we do provide routine maintenance, general service, and A/C diagnosis and repair. We do not service EVs.
If your vehicle needs a service we do not perform in-house, we work with trusted outside vendors who meet our standards for quality and workmanship. We can coordinate those services as part of your visit, helping make the process as convenient and seamless as possible.
Our customers include drivers from throughout Sacramento, Arden-Arcade, Carmichael, Rancho Cordova, and surrounding communities, as well as commercial and government fleets. We service vehicles for organizations including Caltrans, Sacramento City Unified School District, Metro Fire, and California Department of General Services fleets, just to name a few.
